The San Gabriel Valley Children’s Chorus was founded in March of 1998.  It has approximately one hundred members, ages 6 to 18, trained in six groups: Apprentice Choir, Intermediate Choir, Pre-Concert Choir, Concert Choir, Chamber Choir and Handbell Choir.  The SGVCC employs a rich repertoire, which covers Motets of the Renaissance period, contemporary choral works, folk songs and musicals.

The SGVCC not only dedicates its effort in music advancement and cultural enrichment, but also involves in community services.  Recitals are regularly given to all classes to develop students’ musical skills and intellectual capacities.  Other performances include the yearly participation in the Overseas Chinese Choral Festival, Northern California Tour in June 1998, Opera “The Travel of a Little Balloon” at Luckman Fine Art Complex in August 1998, Los Angeles County Holiday Celebration at the Los Angeles Music Center for several Christmas,  Tree Lighting Ceremony in City of Alhambra, Disneyland performances, and various charity concerts.  In summer of 1999, the Concert Choir visited New York, Boston, and Washington D.C.  They were invited to sing at the St. John Cathedral, and presented two concerts with ASIA and CCGW, two local children’s choir.  The Concert Choir went on the Hawaii concert tour in summer 2001.  In December 2004 and 2005, they were invited by the Los Angeles County Arts Commission to participate in the Holiday Celebration Program performed at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.  In summer of 2005, the group performed at Nixon Library and DisneyLand.  In March 2007, the group performed in the First Annual Festival for Children’s Chorus at Claremont.  Same year, they performed with the Czech Lark Choir from Czech Republic in July, and with the Youth Orchestra from Dalian University, China in September.  The children often visit the senior homes, convalescence centers, and share the beauty music to the surrounding communities.
 

The concert choir consists of senior members; among them many have had several concert tour experiences both abroad and nationwide.  The choir has proven its superb quality not only through beautiful harmony, colorful tone quality, sensitive musicality, and exciting and versatile programs, but also by demonstrating its unique way of appreciating and interpreting music of all origins and time.

In July 2009, the chamber choir proved its artistic quality to enter the Japan International Youth Musicale in Shizuoka, Japan where they shared music and friendship through music activities with children from Italy, Czech Republic, Sweden, Russia, New Zealand, and Japan.  Three children choruses and four other music groups out of the 30+ applications from all over the world were chosen.  This is a music culture event organized by the JIYM Committee, sponsored by the Tokoha Gakuen Educational Institute, and co-sponsored by the Shizuoka City, Japan.
